Punk Rock Etiquette - the comic!

Oh. Hello! As you may or may not know, Punk Rock Etiquette is a book. But wait. Then why is this new comic series called Punk Rock Etiquette? I am confused. What? Because it is based on Travis's rocksperiences? Ohhhhh. Now I understand.

This band was real. And they were the worst band in the world. Not because of their music. I don't even remember what they sounded like. But because of this. And other stuff (which will be covered in a later comic). ARG! These guys! AAAUUUUGGGG!

Libraries. Again.

Punk Rock Etiquette was used to spell out information for an invitation to Biblioball 2009, an AWESOME event in New York to benefit Literacy for Incarcerated Teens (providing books and literacy programs for detained youth in NYC).

3 CHERES 4 LIBARIES!!!1

I love libraries. In general.
But I especially and selfishly love that basically every library with a YA section in these United States is carrying Punk Rock Etiquette.

Lately I've been getting some really great emails lately from rad kids from all over.

Here's an AWESOME band from Wisconsin.

5/6 of these guys are still in high school. I couldn't shred like that back then, and I certainly can't now. Good things are in the future for these guys. Hopefully. I mean, that' high school-to-college-or-moving-or-work time is tough for bands. GO FOR IT, GANG. BEFORE YOU'RE OLD LIKE ME. Whew. Got a little worked up there. I need to go wrap up in my afgan and lie down for a bit.

Urban

A couple of months ago, my editor told me that Urban Outfitters was going to start carrying my book at some of their stores. Kind of a test run that would hopefully lead to it being carried in all of their stores. We didn't know which stores or when this would happen.

And that's the last I heard about it.

Until today when a gal who I met last year at the Miami Book Fair sent me a message letting me know that she saw my book at Urban Outfitters. So... I guess the plan is in action.

Hooray! So... consider doing me a favor and going to your local UO and seeing if Punk Rock Etiquette is carried there. If so, pick up a copy, take a step to the side as not to block the books on the shelf, and laugh loudly as you flip through it. Repeat until someone notices, picks up a copy, and takes it to the register. And hey, don't get me wrong. That person taking a copy to the register can definitely be you.

Thank you.
Yours,
Travis

Don't tell my ladyfriend

But I'm really glad that the guys fixing our broken pipe didn't finish today. I really like hotels. It remains to be seen if we're treated like a couple of wet dogs for booking it on a name-your-own-price website.

Jessica and I really like the pizza dough from Whole Foods. Sometimes we buy a dough, some vegan cheese, sauce, and a bunch of veggies and greens and make pizza at home. It's always AWESOME. Last week, I noticed a little sign at the WF pizza station that said, "Ask us about our vegan pizza!"

So I went last night and said, "I would like to ask you about your vegan pizza."
The pizza chef said, "Sure! Here it is!" and pointed at three slices.
"Alright. I'll take them."
"All of them?"
"Todos, my friend. Let's do it."

So I took them home, and they weren't awesome. Same ingredients. Same brand of vegan cheese. But it Just. Wasn't. Great. We take the same materials and make it amazing at home. Go figure.

Good pizza is more than the sum of its parts.

Back to school.

Well, alright!

Apparently, Punk Rock Etiquette is going to be used next semester in a Young Adult Literature class at Illinois State University. Whether it will be used for study or to balance the professor's wobbly lectern, I do not know. At any rate, that's pretty neat! Any Redbirds out there?

TEXAS BOOK FESTIVAL!

People of Austin! COME SEE ME!

I have an event on Saturday, November 1st from 1 to 1:45.

In Capitol Extension Room E1.016 in the Capitol Building!!! That's right. Every Texan's second home. I will talk for a bit and tell a story with pictures and maybe sing a song or two. And I'll be giving away free bookplates to put in your copy of Punk Rock Etiquette.

I'll also be at "Not for Required Reading" also on the 1st from 8 to 9:30pm at the Austin Bat Cave (1807 W. 11th St.).

Also, I won't be touring between the TexBookFest and the Miami Book Fair as originally planned. Couldn't get it together. DANGIT! I WILL be doing some touring in early 09. Count on it, suckers!

Rocktober!

Oh, man. Did I just write "rocktober"? Sorry. Really. Sorry about that.

Well, Punk Rock Etiquette has been out for a month. I now live on twenty acres just north of San Francisco. I have a solar-powered home, a 22-foot-diameter greenhouse, a small castle made of cinder blocks with a working drawbridge surrounded by a turtle pond moat. It's a beautiful piece of property with a lovely creek running down the middle of the orchard. I go back and forth between here and my house in South Austin in my biodiesel/electric airplane. Yeah, they perfected the technology, and I have one of the first working models.

So yeah. Everything is pretty awesome.

In related news, I'll be at the Texas Book Festival on November 1st and 2nd, and at the Miami Book Fair for an awesome event on November 16th. Instead of flying back and forth across the country, I decided to do some good ol' fashioned book tourin' betwixt the two. Details to follow, but you live in the dirty dirty, I might be in your town next month.

Hooray!

P.S. My browser's auto-spellcheck didn't red flag 'betwixt'. That is completely awesome.
